Acer Aspire 5100 laptop keyboard disassembly guide November 13, 2009
In my last article, I have shown you how to remove DVD drive, memory, hard drive, wireless card and cooling fan in Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. Now, let us move to the keyboard.
Pry out the keyboard bezel with a flathead screwdriver and get the bezel out.
Loose the red-circled screws used to fix the keyboard.
Lift up the keyboare. Be careful, the keyboard is still attached to the motherboard via a flat ribbon cable. Unlock the connector and release the cable before removing the keyboard.
Move up the black tab about 1-2 millimeters. Do not separate the tab from the connector, since it has to stay attached to the connector. Be careful not to break the keyboard connector.
Release the cable and the keyboard will be removed.
In the next article, I will show you how to remove the LCD screen of Acer Aspire 5100 laptop.

I broke the little black tab on the keyboard connector on my Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook. Is there anyway to fix it or replace that lock down tab? Or can you suggest a way to make the ribbon stay in the connector, even if it means glueing or any other last ditch effort? I have bought keyboards from you in the past.

Looking for letter “r ” for a Dell Latitude D610 Laptop. It broke off. Can I just replace the one key or do I have to replace the whole keyboard? Marc(Quote) (Reply)
Yes, you can just replace the ‘R’ key, but we sell the keyboard instead of key!
