Lenovo ThinkPad W510 Laptop Disassembly June 10, 2010

Lenovo ThinkPad W510 is equipped with the top configuration in Lenovo ThinkPad W serious products: Intel Core i7 920 processor, NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M 1GB Graphics card, 4GB DDR3 1066 memory, two 500GB HDD and a 15.6-inch muti-touch screen with a color calibration system. Besides performance, it’s nothing more curious than W510 internal structure. We disassemble Lenovo ThinkPad W510 to know its inner structure and workmanship.
Before removing the keyboard, we should know something about it.The keyboard of W510 still inherits ThinkPad original style, however, it enlarges some keys, adds a group of audio control buttons and the height of space bar is slightly higher than other keys.

Let’s begin with the keyboard.

Disassembly the keyboard

Mouse button and keyboard is united together as one.

All the snaps in front of keyboard have been peeled.

The components inside Lenovo ThinkPad W510 are in a good order.

Remove the keyboard

It is not easy to remove flex cables as it fixes in this way.
Memory and HDD

Two Memory slots in the bottom.

W510 supports Memory up to 16GB, and up to 4GB for one Memory slot.

Seagate 500GB HDD is also in the bottom of Lenovo ThinkPad W510. Where is the other one? It will come soon.

The bottom of HDD cassette

The both sides of cassette use rubber material, which is steady and shockproof.

After removing the keyboad, we can see memory and optical drive clearly.

The memory is close to processor.

Two Sumsung 2GB DDR3 1066 memories

Peel the snaps in two sides and the memory upsprings automatically.

The heat sink should be taken out before removing the other memory.

What a luxury heat cooling system! It deserves to cool Core i7 920 processor and NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M 1GB professional graphics card.

To avoid the keyboard being too hot, the heat pipes above processor and graphics card has been separed by a block piece.

The heat sink of ThinkPad W510 is heavy.

After removing the heat sink, we can see processor and graphics chip. Core i7 is in the right part.

Unscrew the right screw and Core i7 920 processor can be removed.

Hi .. where did you get the second drive adapter which is not leaving the gap hole. ?
i got original from lenovo and mine leaves a 3mm gap from the top of the computer case .. Noder(Quote) (Reply)
