Lenovo ideaPad Z460 Review

As Lenovo Z460 was released not long ago, or there are mainly black Lenovo IdeaPad Z460 laptops in the market, and the Lenovo IdeaPad Z460 we got is also black. The first impression of IdeaPad Z460 is very general, and it is similar to Lenovo G460. 

Lenovo IdeaPad Z460’s shell comes with IMR process design which is the same as IdeaPad Z460. When we pick up the notebook with one hand, the texture is comfortable. Lenovo Z460 is with plastic-based materials, but the IMR process design makes top cover more robust and more durable, but it is easy to collect the fingerprints.

It can be said IdeaPad Z460 and IdeaPad G460 is almost completely identical in the molds, but the details design in IdeaPad Z460 appearance has a great change. First of all, like the Y Series laptop, IdeaPad Z460 has a silver-gray, like the waistline, this waistline is not as that of Y series served as a decorative effect, while Lenovo Z460′s waistline has a good color fusion.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z460 sunken shaft design

Lenovo Z460 designed with a sunken shaft, while the shafts are located on both sides of the notebook, the maximum opening and closing angle is 130 degrees.

Lenovo Z series focuses on its own fashion design, while operation area of Lenovo IdeaPad Z460  shows off the fashion sense. First of all, Lenovo IdeaPad Z460 comes with a magnesium alloy operation area, which makes the laptop more stylish as well as good wear resistance to corrosion. The strong metallic sense power button and shortcut keys significantly increase the Z460′s grade, and with suspended-type keyboard, IdeaPad Z460 is more elegant.

The layer at the top of Lenovo Z460 operating area is designed with network structure, in which there is a set of built-in stereo speakers with Dolby sound effect. On the left of the layer, there is the metal power button and an orange one key recovery button, on the right side, it features a row of shortcut buttons with incandescent light effect, this ingenious design also makes Lenovo Z460 more aesthetic.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z460 suspended-type keyboard with ergonomically design can be regarded as the biggest bright spot of IdeaPad Z460. This keyboard kept simple and stylish design but has high practicability. Watch carefully, we will find the bottom of each plane has a slight Caps arc; this design makes the keyboard more lovely and cute. Suspended keyboard allows the space between each key becomes larger; this can significantly reduce typing errors. In addition, moderate key space makes typing easily.

In fact, Lenovo Z460 touchpad and left and right buttons is designed exactly the same as the Y series, the touchpad of IdeaPad Z460 has concave small dots design, and it not only increases the comfort but also increases the sensitivity of the touchpad. The difference between Lenovo Z460 and Y series touchpad is that there is a metal frame design on IdeaPad Z460 touchpad. In addition, Lenovo Z460 “IdeaPad” logo on the lower-right corner of the palmrest has the light desin which also make it fashionable.

Although Lenovo Z460 is wiht stylish designs, the layout of the interfaces is identical with the G460, of course, it also continues Lenovo’s practical interface scalability. On the left side of Lenovo IdeaPad Z460, from left to right, there is keyhole, heat vents, RJ-45 Ethernet interface, VGA video output interface, USB2.0 port, e-SATA (compatible with USB2.0), Express Card slot and HDMI high-definition video output.

The right interfaces of IdeaPad Z460 are relatively less, followed by a set of audio input/output interfaces, DVD burner, USB2.0 port and power jack. It is noteworthy that this audio input and output interface is located closer to the operator, and USB2.0 port is also designed on the right of DVD burner, this allows us to better connect the mouse.

Lenovo Z460 bottom cover is made from engineering plastics, but it is relatively more solid than the front shell. IdeaPad Z460 with battery weighs 2.25Kg; and added the adapter, the weight of them is 2.60Kg, which is lighter than IdeadPad Y460.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z460 is not fashionable but also comes with high-end hardware configuration. Lenovo Z460 comes with the Intel Core processors i3-350M processor and HM55 chipset motherboard , and the NVIDIA GeForce G 310M graphics card, comes with a 2GB DDRIII-1066 memory, WD 320GB 5400RPM SATA-II hard drive, DVD burner and Broadcom 802.11n wireless card. In addition, it is also preloaded with Windows 7 Home Basic operating system.

PCMark Vantage Performance test results of Lenovo IdeaPad Z460

PCMark Vantage software is more focused on the application of multi-machine test, the final total score is 4653 points, and each sub-item scores is maintained at about 3500, and music score was the highest at 4942 points.

3DMark Vantage test in Entry mode (5688 points)

At the 1024 × 768 resolution in Entry mode, Lenovo Z460′s final test score is 5688 points, which GPU score is 5498 points. in the same notebook, 3D performance can only be considered normal, but still able to meet the requirements of current mainstream 3D games.

At 24 ℃ room environment, and run IdeaPad Z460 for 2 hours, we use FurMark software to test IdeaPad Z460 at the resolution of 1366 × 768. When FurMark run 1 hour, the temperature is as follow pictures.

The touch pad’s response is perfect. I never had any trouble with it so far. I’m not that keen on the dotted surface though. It irritates my fingers after some time.  (Quote)  (Reply)
